Thanasis Maniatis received his PhD in economics from the Department of Economics of the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research. He is Professor of Marxist Political Economy and Director of the Graduate Program in Political Economy at the Department of Economics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. His recent work investigates the nature of the Greek economic crisis, the measurement of absolute poverty and the redistributive effect of the welfare state.
