The course focuses on a historical overview of the Greek economy from the early post-war years to the country’s inclusion in the memorandum surveillance regime.

     In particular, it analyses the evolution of the basic systems of the Greek economy over time in the light of the economic policy implemented and the international economic and political environment. At the same time, particular emphasis is placed on the causes that led to the current economic crisis and an assessment is made of the effectiveness of the Economic Policy Programmes that have been implemented in the Greek economy.

     The topics to be covered include the following:

The main controversies on the issue of post-war productive reconstruction.
The transformations of the domestic production model.
The effectiveness of economic policy in achieving macroeconomic objectives.
The quantitative and qualitative changes in social stratification.
The impact of Greece’s accession to the EEC and EMU.
The causes of the current crisis in the Greek economy and the policies to deal with it.
